12/2/2023 0 Comments Paul george stats 3pt![]() ![]() These are, unequivocally, disgustingly horrible performances, so I was surprised to see that he still plays well overall in elimination games: Right off the bat, I noticed a couple of really terrible games of his in these elimination situations, most notably 10 points on 25% shooting in game 7 of the 2020 Denver series, and 5 points on 12.5% shooting in game 6 of the 2018 Utah series. One last thing I looked at was Paul George's performances in elimination games, of which he has played 17 since 2013. ![]() Really he only has one truly awful series, and a couple that were meh but the vast majority of the time he’s played up to the moment. ![]() But he still managed to score efficiently when his 3 wasn't falling, which it was in most of these series. I will note that in a couple of these series he did struggle from 3PT range (31.9% from 3 against POR in 2019 29.1% from 3 against PHO in 2021). Some of these were unexpected to me, namely how well he played in the 2019 Portland series despite the amount of shit he's gotten for it, and also a better-than-expected series in the bubble versus Denver (most of his struggles in the bubble were in the previous series versus Dallas, where he was admittedly awful). Here are some of his individual series stats: Between these conference finals trips, he had several other strong performances. He led the Pacers to two consecutive Eastern Conference Finals appearances, where they went toe-to-toe with the Heatles, and also had the Clippers just a couple of games from the 2021 NBA Finals after Kawhi Leonard went down with an injury. Once he broke out as a star, George was pretty consistently good-to-great in the playoffs. One thing I noticed is that George did struggle in his first two postseasons, but he was a 20/21 year old role player at the time, so it's hard to say he "choked" in these series. Next, I took a look at each individual postseason/playoff series. His 3PT percentage does take a pretty significant dip in the postseason, but his overall efficiency is basically the same, with higher counting stats. So statistically, Paul George is arguably better in the playoffs than in the regular season. This is supported by his overall postseason numbers, performances in individual playoff series, and stats in elimination games.įirst, let's compare his regular season stats to his playoff stats: TL DR: The stats show that Paul George is actually a good playoff performer, not a choker. It’s a bit long, so I’ll start with a summary. But is this really true? I had a shitload of coffee and plenty of free time while working a night shift, so I took a detailed look at this. This, combined with Damian Lillard hitting a series-ending "bad shot" over him the previous year, has led to a narrative that Paul George is a bad playoff performer. In the 2020 NBA bubble, Paul George had a notoriously bad playoff performance, shooting below 40% from the field over 13 games as the Clippers blew a 3-1 lead in the conference semifinals. ![]() New Post Game Thread Nikola Jokic dominates the 2023 NBA Finals and earns Finals MVP, averaging 30.2/14/7.2 for the series and the Denver Nuggets are NBA Champions!
